Oliver Twist is a young boy who lives in a workhouse with other orphaned boys. When Oliver disrupts a meal by asking for more, he is sold to a local undertaker and his family. They treat Oliver horribly and make him sleep under the coffins. Oliver escapes and runs off to Paddington Green, where he quickly befriends another young boy, the Artful Dodger. Dodger takes him to his home, an academy for orphans who learn how to be pick-pockets run by a kind, yet slightly sinister, old gentleman named Fagin. Oliver is also introduced to Nancy Sikes, a lovable young woman, and Bet, Nancy's best friend. When Oliver goes on his first pick-pocketing job, he is caught by the police. The man that Oliver thieved, Mr. Brownlow, learns of Oliver's sad past and brings him into his own home. Meanwhile . . .

Oliver Twist (Boy Soprano, C4 - F#5)
A remarkably pious, innocent, charming workhouse boy. Small for his age.
Fagin (Baritone C3 - F4,)
A conniving career criminal, training homeless children to pick pockets for him in return for shelter. Taught Bill Sykes but now fears him. His charm hides a cold heart.
Nancy (Alto G3 - G5,)
An abused career thief and former child pickpocket, but noble and likeable. Wise beyond her years.
The Artful Dodger (Soprano Bb4 - Eb5, cockney accent)
The cleverest and most charming of Fagin's pickpockets. Talks and dresses like a grown man although he is undersized.
Mr. Bumble (Baritone, C3 - A5,)
The pompous, self-important beadle. Preaches Christian morality, but behaves without compassion toward the paupers under his care.
Mrs. Corney (Soprano, D4 - F5,)
The matron of the workhouse. A hypocritical, callous, domineering and demanding widow.
Bill Sykes (Baritone A3 - D4,) A brutal, menacing professional burglar brought up in Fagin's gang.
Bet (Alto,) Nancy’s best friend, idolizes Nancy.
Mrs. Bedwin (Soprano,) Mr. Brownlow's kindhearted, motherly housekeeper.
Mr. Sowerberry (Baritone C3 - F4,) The undertaker to whom Oliver is apprenticed.
Mrs. Sowerberry (Soprano C4 - F5, ) Mean, judgmental, henpecks her husband.
Charlotte Sowerberry The Sowerberrys' daughter
Noah Claypole A charity boy and Mr. Sowerberry's apprentice. An overgrown, cowardly bully.
Mr. Brownlow A well-off, compassionate, sensible, gentleman who turns out to be Oliver's grandfather.
